Review of The Satanic Bible by Anton Zandor LaVey:

This book contains no original thought. It is just plagiarized work from Ragnar Redbeard, Ayn Rand and the Golden Dawn. The rest is a mix of ideas stolen from Darwin, Crowley and Nietzsche. In most of the cases he has not even bothered to rewrite the ideas he stole in his own words. The only people who can think this is new and fresh must never have read any books on the subject before. Instead of raising the book to the skies it should be removed from the book stores because of pure theft.

It claims to be Satanism even though there is no Satanism in this book. The forewords nail it down to social Darwinism which is a much better title for what this philosophy really is. It is atheistic which makes it impossible to call it Satanism according to all definitions of what that word really means. He has more or less hijacked an already established definition and claims his is the correct one even when his own books make that impossible. It is similar to the Republican Party suddenly claiming they are Hindu. It just does not work that way.

To support this they make silly claims that there has never been Satanism before LaVey. Another proof that they do not read books much. What about Stanislaw Przybyszewski a self proclaimed Satanist who wrote several books on his teachings? How about August Strindberg who was also a self proclaimed Satanist and also wrote about it? Then we have Ben Kadosh who listed him self as a Luciferian in the Danish records. There are tons of examples long before LaVey was even born. Another common argument is that it was not organized before LaVey. Not true either. Strindberg and Stanislav belonged to the same group of Satanists together with many other famous Satanists such as Joris-Karl Huysmans. If we go further back in time it is hard to ignore Gilles de Rais.

So what is this book really? It is an attempt at creating something that would bring attention but still not be bad enough to cause a major out roar. This way it was possible to seem like an educated and reasonable group and still get to be called Satanists. It made it possible for people like Jayne Mansfield and Sammy Davis Jr to play bad without it actually being bad. People that are well read weren’t fooled by it though and will always consider this a major scam and theft. The book is a disgrace to the occult society and a mockery on real Satanists.
